Miki and Richard
John and Alda
Lacie and Bryan
I got the belated wedding present blues
youall grew up and got married and I just don't know what to do
the last time I remembered Miki she was slugging my brother John on the arm
she was trying to tenderise him with some charm for the funny farm
then she got all grown up to act responsibly
and John Senior's arm recovered just in time to see
John Junior change from a chubby kid who dumped about ten sugars into his iced tea
at a Mexican restaurant one sunny day
at least that's my last personal memory
and then I heard he was going to Texas A&M
and I said, oh no not an Aggie, said a prayer and an amen,
next thing you know I had looked up Captain Clyde
and there was a svelte John Junior enjoying the spot light
up on the stage singing "know what i mean"
"I want to make you scream, but i'm not like a sardine"
mercy, then he got all distinguished too,
and yes indeed I remember Lacie bending double backwards over a chair,
a backflip without a care,
but she too was so far away, as tho in a distant galaxy,
went thru a quantum leap, became a princess without a bleep,
and so you see that I do care from afar
and wish youall well upon a star that rises in the west
all married now and know that my brother John senior youall have blessed.
And to your beloveds as well, Richard, Alda, and Bryan,
let the good times roll and never stop trying,
because it's never too late to wish youall well,
from John Senior's brother Jimbo
my wish for you
kindness, clarity, insight
in all you do.
