on the event of her wedding #3

This day must solely gorgeous manifest
itself, this day when first my love awoke
conjoined with someone else’s faithful word—
and I must find it wonderful, this day
I might as easily condemn, depressed
that love has aged to see its faith devolve.
To now withhold my thanks, my praise—perhaps
I’d never pray again and faith collapse
entirely. And so I fears dissolve
in trust that I have truly love confessed
and will as such profess again. I lay
my breath but gently down, like peace conferred
on something pitiful; I shrill evoke
a blessing on this day of love-aches’ rest.
