Time Out
The second hand ticks off momentary time
lives in the Now from the heights to the depths in a minute
Then the calendar takes over
bills paid, plans made and penciled in
The next step back from time is history
centuries considered and wars and dynasties
Another step back and geology inches along like the drift of continents
a hundred million years the earth takes just to wash its face
The camera pulls out to cosmic time where yugas and light years live
when a star winks at you, it happened a million years ago
In the time shell beyond that, big bangs happen every second
universes warm and cool and god is still a rookie
