Fear

Fear does not hear the wail or cry
of saints or deathrow inmates, nor
does it have ears to victims raped
nor wait for interrogation from a rationale.

Fear is a mock, a plague, a lunatic
in rage, pumping bloodbaths into
ghostholds, sensuous, sterile, silent,
yet virile its stance.

Fear is a languid host, a panther
most concerned with baring fangs
to cause a dance on the surface of
a vacant stare, eyes dilated, fixed.

Fear attempts prankster tricks,
sticks his poison on your lips
tongue to tongue, forked, his work
to paralyze. And when he verifies

His prey, the way a night can verify
a day, he plays with comedy and
white-sheet drawn complexions,
the inspection of his purpose, futile.

I have cornered Fear.
He is held captive in a scalding bath
while I lie nude on tile, sweat cold
between my breasts.

I love this poem, doreen
It's a keeper

here is my humble answer

-----

The Fear of Being A Poet

Fear is knowing
that someone might unknot
your tangled truths

see through your words
like lenses into your soul
and being a poet
you have doubts about your soul

how bold will you be
with your reverie?
Courage stares Fear in the eye
and tries not to blink

Nothing works like an earthquake
to get your heart right with fear
when you can't count on the ground
and wear panic on your feet like sneakers

and all the blaring speakers
remind you of danger and dismay
the poet tips his hat, says
Have a lovely day.

Powerful writing, DP.

You could probably get this published in some Academic zine or some official lit-journal were you to pitch it right.

the vulnerability
