Vista

Post by mnaz » December 17th, 2007, 7:57 am

In the mapped out new west we live in,
the maps are a little too detailed for my taste,
littered with Jeeps perched above pioneer death trails,
and a wide, wide vista past the end of the earth.

Vista may call you out, ridicule your presence.
In turn you may question its foolish geologic patience.
Find water in the desert and the trouble soon starts.
Ideally, the desert should have no water.

hmm... that's strange. I was going to write something completely different, something skewering "soft rock" as I recall, and this is what came out instead.... Seems a "Time Life" commercial about all those favorite soft hits came on the other night, and... what is "soft rock" anyway? Is that kinda like almost sex?

So it seems, Jimbo... well-worn metaphor, but works for me... even had a few riffs to that effect in that manic "Drought" essay I wrote a couple years back. Sippin' a little wiskee last nite...

Actually, I think it was that photo on my desk by the computer, pulled off the internet-- a couple of lost souls atop some lost ridge with the Black Rock of Black Rock Desert lore just visible on the horizon-- out somewhere past the end of the earth... Yeah, that was probably it, got me off on that tangent...

Ode to Microsoft's new OS? Fer shame. Vista looks promising but not exactly poesy, man.

(screensaver grand canyon or Der Ding-an-sich? Ss.)
