No River

Post by Marksman45 » March 31st, 2008, 4:01 pm

we quenched our fires in the cool and deep
and we fell asleep on the shore.
but now it’s morning and time to leave
and there ain’t no river anymore.

the flashing turning beneath the sun’s long burning
the leaves and blossoms it bore
there was no dawn, there was only mourning
and there ain’t no river anymore.

come ash, come petals, come gasoline
come snow and seed and core
they came to wash out in the stream
but there ain’t no river anymore.

the wind turned dry, lifted a sigh
left the wish and the willow before
just like eyes cry, and dust to die,
there ain’t no river anymore.

the burn is deeper than the bend below
below the bed, beyond the lore
below the salt, the silt, the stone
'til there ain’t no river anymore.

now the willow cries only empty tears
and the stones can only leave us sore
but I’ll carry one with me through the years
‘cause there ain’t no river anymore.

I’ll be sleeping through the storm again
seeking and dreaming for
the key to carry, the call and ken
when there ain’t no river anymore.

it’s time we walk and lift our heads
and bury the blooms you wore
write their secret names in the empty bed
since there ain’t no river anymore.

it will probably be #1

these are fine lyrics, my friend (imagine John McCain saying this)
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Thanks, everyone :)

Yes, there is indeed music. It's another one of my trademark Medieval Bluegrass pieces. I recorded it last night; I'll have it up somewhere for listening soon.

Man! Just the title "Medieval Bluegrass"--I've got to hear this to music; I was imagining it that way when I read it anyhow. Nice.

Marksman, I really like your music. Captain Beefheart, Nick Drake and traveling minstrels playing lutes. yes. Sounds like the kind of music to lay a girl down on the moon's light by.

I don't know, maybe not, but you might like this band:

One of my favourite bands.
