Courage

Post by saw » June 8th, 2008, 11:34 am

I'm so fearless
I ignore the check-engine light
on the dashboard
of my new car.

I scoff
at the flashing warning
at the crosswalk, run
with scissors

through the intersection,
double daring,
waving my fingers
with my free hand

on the side of my nose,
at the losers
on their way to work,
the naive fools

tucking dollars
into savings accounts,
in socks,
the pages of books

so sure
that they will get
to spend it one day...
I pity

that they will never know
the exhilaration
that comes from
carelessly plunging

a fork into the toaster
to spear your English muffin,
the thrill
from soaking in your bathtub

listening to Beethoven
full blast,
the electric radio just inches
from one of the claw feet.

My co-workers know
I live on the edge,
they have seen me mouth
the words, "Eat Me",

behind the boss's back
and not a single one of them
has the guts
to call in sick

as many times as I have...
Sniveling Cowards,
the lot of them!
I laugh inside when they whine

about forgotten one-a-day vitamins,
I smirk with arcane delight,
knowing...
I haven't flossed in a month.

You haven't flossed in a month? My God, you ARE a brave man! ;)

lol

another gem from you... enjoyed this

I have a question ....

Do you post them as you write them? Or are you pulling from your older material when you post?

Just curious.

Saw, I tell you, these pieces from you are like manna from heaven for me..I read them with absolute delight, like when a small ray of sunshine comes in through thick clouds, and chooses my window to do so.....
floss?
who the hell needs that luxury, when your tongue becomes prickly enough to scrape the truth out of the deepest of denials, stare them in the face unwavering, when you yourself are wondering how the hell you'll pay for those dear muffins you've brazenly forked out of toaster.
Your timeless pieces are "feeding" me, and many others I am sure, through really rough currents....

I haven't flossed in a great stretch of time. Seemed a little pointless at the time, back then, like something someone told me to do.

Saw I confess I never floss. But I use and electric tooth brush and have had no dental problem for over a decade!

I own a book about how risk takers often come out on top. I love your assertive expression of a life lived to the fullest. I forget the quote exactly but in the move Braveheart he says something like,"Some men die having never lived." More power to ya man!
