The Bracelet

I took the bracelet off today
it's been five years since it's been unclasped
I wore it in the bath, I wore it to bed
I thought I would wear it until I was dead

But bling is bling
at least it didn't turn my wrist green
but I'll miss waking up at night
with it tangled in my hair

I cut my hair
for the first time in years
I had to
I did not know how to take care of it myself.

I once threw my wedding ring out the window driving on the beltway going 85 miles an hour.

I'm sorry about the bracelet.

Your poem brought tears to my eyes.

thank you ladies for seeing this poem and appreciating it for the simple image that it is

and doreen, I didn't take it off in rage or anger, it was deliberately and reluctantly and calmly. I didn't throw it out the window of a speeding car. I don't wear it, but I don't know if I can part with it. It's in a safe place.
