you may be able to hit the delete button on
things you type
on things you write

but you can't hit the delete button on things you say
or things you do

you own them forever

True dat.

Life is not the internet.

Well said.

I wrote this some years back.

___________________

Would that in our daily speech
we had a button to delete
the words we've spewed in anger or
those thoughts which from emotions soar
like missiles launched without a thought
from lips which should be locked up taut!
But no, we all are guilty of
harsh words which bite and cut as love
feels damaged! So, we'd best forget
when others should be blamed.

Since as of yet
real life ain't like the internet.
There's no delete
some words aren't sweet
and some can cause a flame!

If you can't forget
Sometimes it's best
if you forgive them just the same.

too true you two

To err is human, to [forget] is divine.

this whole topic is about altering history
(also the theme of 1984)

can you change what happened by just talking about it differently or making it disappear?

I don't think so.

If one person witnessed it, it is history.
Even if it's a tree falling in the forest, it's history.

forgiveness and mea culpa are much better than
DELETE!
(this never happened)
well, it did happen

forgive but not forget

If it happened, it never did.
And delete is such a natural.

History is such a whore.
It deserves our scorn.

written word/oral word/ action? well, it all depends in if you have an audience or not, I guess!

but you can't hit the delete button on things you say
we´ve been kind of suffering that during last months in the pub-lic sphere here in a bit dramatic way... yeah.

the delete button is very handy
when you are typing it is handy to correct mistakes
too bad it doesn't work in life or music
once you have uttered the word or played the note
or done the deed, it is there forever locked in time
you can't do it over again, the beat goes on
It would be nice to have a delete button for the holocaust
we could deny that it ever happened like the nut in Iran whose name I can't say
the delete button can be a denial device
but once something is done, it's done
not even the river in Egypt can wash it away

I think the same can be said for the things we never said and never did. There are almost as many regrets (for me at least) in that file...and...it's much too late now to hit the "insert" button on most of them.

what an interesting take on this topic, scott
the contrast between the sins we did and the sins we didn't

I guess we could photoshop our lives after the fact
cure all sins of omission
(did you know that I dated Fiona Apple? Here's the picture to prove it)

there's an 'insert' button? Does it have hair around it?
