i must’ve wished for you a little
when i listened for wings
two summers ago

when you came flying
between delicate feathers

at the moons request

i should’ve wished a little harder
when that train whistle rattled
my thoughts

but, you did rise from the past
to be here
like a phantom winter
your eyes weeping like twilight
your hands, dank in uneasy repose

there was no sadness like our own
in that waiting room we shared
the one that opened to the sea

in fluent aloneness

over coffee and a morning
almost sublime
surreal in the content
of favourite words and phrases

we are drifting in the same sea

quiet! quiet!
the gentle call is for you, my love!

carried by dark water
we are singing the same quiet song
and with wet faces
are listening to the heartbeat of the sea

a beating of wings I have heard
it is your soul
on light pinions
it flew to the moon
and now is returning
to sway together with me
in the rhythm of the waves

in deep water
we are surging
away from each other
towards one another
while on the horizon
a streak of light is appearing
and soft morning air is caressing us
