Persons of Interest

I guess the political correctness police have been on the job
they used to round up the 'usual suspects.' There were guys they called 'perps'
but somebody must have shouted, 'are you using the P word?'
because now we must call them, 'persons of interest.'

I would love to be a person of interest
but it appears that no one is interested

Political correctness is correct only in theory, or in the most basic terms, it would seem. It's correct in the sense that we shouldn't go tossing out racial slurs for example, but it tends to be taken too far, especially with ethnic identifiers. For black people, when I was growing up, the term was simply "black", and then it was almost exclusively "African-American", but now I hear "black" used a lot more these days once again. With Native-Americans, the term was simply "Indian" when I was growing up, and then "Native-American", but I heard somewhere a couple years back that "American Indian" was also preferred or accepted. It gets hard to sort it all out...
