Linda Weatherby

she was a concert cellist
she was an actress
she was a caricature artist
she was a masseuse

and she happened to be beautiful

we kept running into each other
we shared girlfriends

college and sleeping on floors
is what got us together

but again and again
we turned up in each other's lives
we would meet in distant places
without plan for rendevous

when I was too high
or desperate
at large
there she would be
her name was Linda Weatherby

a groupie from hell
she slept with Johnny Winter
I think she had a thing for albinos

If I were going to characterize
I would say Faye Dunaway
but she also swam in Esther's Pool

I wonder where she will turn up next?

..threw me a bit when you first posted this. I kept thinking, wasn't that the hot anchorwoman with glasses who did that late night news thing?... (Linda Ellerbee).

Another good reflection. I never really had a Linda Weatherby like that, coming up, through the years. I'm curious about the 'Esther' reference.

nazz,

let me elucidate in a more prosaic manner. I met LW when I was in college. She was wildly talented and beautiful. She had master music teachers from all over the world donating lessons for her.

Over the years we kept running into each other in odd places. One year I went to Hemisfair in San Antonio. I don't know if you remember the event but it was a mini world's fair. My friend and I had dropped a cap of mescaline in Austin that morning and driven in his MG convertible down to San Antone. By the time we got to the front gate of the Hemisfair, we were reduced to psychedelic children. We couldn't figure out how to buy tickets, money had lost all meaning suddenly, so two little old ladies helped us through the gate.

We were winding our way through the streets of the fair, going to exhibits, when I looked into a girl's eyes who was walking toward me. It was Linda Weatherby. She had a sketch pad under her arm and a box of pastels. She walked up to me and flipped her lovely blonde hair aside to show me a three inch cut on her forehead that had stitches in it. I was shocked.

Turned out that she was doing caricature drawings at the fair and she had gone down to Galveston the previous weekend and had been attacked on the beach and hit in the head with a tire iron. I also called her Sweet Lorainne because she had this kind of luck.

The last time I saw her, she was working as a stock player at a place in Austin called Esther's Pool. It was a comedy-revue type show like SNL. They did a new show of sketch comedy and music every week and packed em in.

amazing. when people tell me "it's a small world", I want to throttle them in a nice, acceptable way (I endured that namesake ride at Disneyland two or three times when I was eleven). and my god, who would attack sweet Lorainne on the beach with a tire iron? holy jesus!

a female concert cellist or a dorothy parker wit...

who also happens to be beautiful. yes. that would give me pleasure.

I love these little things you write
they offer a sort of clay insight

I saw this guy a while back in a small place in glasgow and I'm trying to push him onto every country fan I know... which is you and um... well... there are a few others... an engineer in work really! two people! ha, you'd think I don't know many white "folks".
