The Role of "John McCain"

It's pretty obvious this man is not fully behind his job, the job he has been assigned to do, which is not to be the president but to take the fall.
All one has to do is look at him, his demeanor and body language, his bearing, and listen to his tone of voice when he speaks, to know this is so. He knows he's lying. And he doesn't want to do it, but he has to because they've picked him. And so, he's doing it, reciting lines to be the Big Defense, war hero dude, but he clearly does not want to do it. It's all over him.
It's like the Republicans have access to time travel or something. They know the future. They know Obama wins. But somebody has to be trotted out to fill the shoes, and this is McCain's year. He always wanted to be a viable presidential candidate, and this year he gets to pretend to be one.
"I'm not really a president, but I'd like to play one on t.v."
Nobody in the party really expects him to win. If he did, that would be absolute proof that the system is rigged. He's just a body, a stand-in put up in front of the camera to read lines. It was never in the plan that he should win. He knows this. And he's not happy with the role. But he's playing it because he knows he's got to. Because it's the only role he's been given. Because he knows it's the only way he has of ever getting even close to what he wants. Because if he can't ever actually be the president, at least the pretense of trying is something. He can at least say he tried, and he can go down in history that way. He can forever be the guy who lost to Barak Obama, the first black president in American history.
I guess that, at least, is something.
Peace,
Barry
