The Best I Can Do

This is a good night for writing,
I'm awake....there are angry voices
out there in the street, they been drinkin'
like six hours straight 'cause no one
has to worry 'bout gettin' up early
for work tomorrow 'cause none of them
got jobs, hell nobody 'round here
got jobs much anymore.
I got me a little gig cleanin' up
at the post office, ain't much,
three times a week, and dig this,
they think I'm special up there,
they call me the custodian,
pretty funny title, huh ?...and
everybody is real nice and with my
two other little jobs, 'course they ain't legal
or nothin', Ha, I'm doin' pretty good....
likes to write me a poem or two some nights
drink a little of this here vodka
with the lemon juice built right in,
I likes to say me a few prayers too.
