We go California now,
flash our acrid tan smile,
pay the sun with smog and mirrors.

We want our due.
We want our shot at power.

Bushings and carburetors and
narrowly missed conscription got us by.
Now we have leather navigation systems
to run the red pen rapids.
Leverage profile.

We want a shot.
We want to crack the order.

So the order began to relent.
I could vote now, I could win.
I could crack codes, shift debts,
shift cogs and grind higher.
The view is unbelievable.

So I celebrated, naturally,
herbally, the paths up a mountain,
the warmest streaks of alpine blue,
until the search, the order searches.

Some were delayed.
Some spent time in the lockup.
Some kept grinding it out.
Some won elections.

We want a shot.
We want a fair crack at it,
