It was beautiful.
I screwed it up.
I should have taken
a picture of it

a succinctly put restatement of The Heisenberg Effect

Not exactly.

It really was quite
striking, a piece
to be admired,
each stroke almost
exactly right, trite
as it may sound...
an all around
somewhat
perfect
presence.

But now it's gone,
a bit of a mourn
in order,
and yet
we soon
forget
borders
and other
in particular
variations
of tone and
form,

Still life
we know
pictured
as such.

not a total loss
you got a couple nice poems out of it
even I can hear that one with my tin ear.

(Yeah, me too) (maybe, just maybe, you couldn't be happy with it perfect as it was so in warrior fashion you cleared the boards making room for the next time) Ah,D, so beautiful in action. (You do realize, of course, I haven't a clue) I'm element of my out here but whatever hinders is key to strengths. "In the desert you can remember your name" You must starve yourself to face the Devil even though you know the first thing he will speak to will be your raging hunger. He's a smooth one, Mr. Horn is. He will have you to turn stone to bread but resist the temptation of your power by the magical. By this will the time come when you will change water to wine and angels will attend you. Picture that.

and it gets worse... i did it again... hours and hours of time and paint wasted

this time, i bought a hand sander and tried to sand it down so i could start all over again .... there's paint in my hair, i spent $30 on the sander and i think i broke it because there's paint clogging it up .... there's paint all over my carpet, on my fireplace hearth... on several sets of clothing

i give up

now i have to wait until all the neighbors are asleep to carry the huge canvases out to the trash so nobody sees them and laughs at me

dor' - sounds as tho you're tossing out several canvases... too bad. i've been known to burn mine, those that absolutely pissed me off. but making a bonfire in your backyard may be too much for the neighborhood, unless you tell them it's cold and you wanted to bring warmth to the wildlife. haha!

i use a black & decker mouse sander for sanding down paint on canvas. it works very well and gives me the effect i look for. it also gives an extremely smooth finish to the overall canvas and make for an interesting background for a continuation of the work.

i would suggest you not throw them out but rather put them away from your sight for awhile... how ever long it takes and then look at one or two of them and quite possibly you may see something in them that you didn't see before because you envisioned something that did come out of the brush the way you wanted it to... and what came out may have been what needed to come out. think aboot it, kiddo! and for gawdsache, don't take it so friggin' serious! that sucks more than anything you could paint!!

doreen...this is something i'm struggling with too. not fucking up the canvas. such a big blank thing with so many possibilies...too many possibilities. and it costs money. and what will others say (or not!). i'm just more comfortable with paper. you can crumple it up and toss it in the bin and not a soul have to frown or pretend to like it. painting a canvas is very brave. full stop.
