Fucking the Skunk

When the tomcat finished fucking the skunk
He said,
"Thank you ma'am, but I've enjoyed about all of this that I can stand."

It's how I'm starting to feel about old age.
I'm not interested in too much more of it.
Luckily,
resurrection and reincarnation are the same thing
when we are born into a fresh body, vital, young
like trading in your car or moving into a new house

That's why I'm glad to be a Christian or a Buddhist
never mind which, maybe a battered existentialist
the mortal coil is temporary at best
the cycle gives no quarter.

But I sure enjoyed fucking the skunk.

I like the malodorous metaphor.
Maybe it's a progressive (regressive?) one?
Maybe it all doesn't start off as a skunk?

old age is not for sissies
longevity has its blessings
but sixty was a tough year for me
a lot of self pity

this poem reminds me of a J Geils song

I'm pretty sure that if Christianity is true, you're not coming back. The resurrection was only for one guy in that religion, not for you.

I know that news stinks... like a skunk.... but think of it this way... i bet you think some skunk smells great! :P

clever poem, Clay.

old age is relative

i have a few relatives left older than me

age gets pretty sad when every friend you ever had is dead

not much left to shout about then

something about sixty
hit me hard
six zero
seemed so old
I will probably feel them same
in two years
if I am lucky enough
to turn
seven zero

now I realize how much I still got left to lose.

age is relative
Kerouac so old at forty seven

Liked this poem Clay
but you touched a nerve.

Living here in a senior housing appartment complex, ten of us, nine old women and one old man.

No doubt women are the weaker sex.

thanks nazz, that metaphor is perfect for me, crude but effective

jack, I'm going to need to know how much you charge for senior counseling (hourly rates or yearly?)

doreen, one thing nice about old age is that I'm less interested in theological arguments. I got blessed with a late Christmas present today.....a little skunk!.

cec, I can relate

I surprised that nobody saw this for what it is, a suicide note

I'm working on a new book by that title--Suicide Notes

it's sort of a Scheherazade concept or like Penelope in the Odyssey
you know, as long as I keep writing suicide notes, I won't actually do it.

I heard that Richard Brautigan left a suicide note.
He shot himself in the head with a forty five. and his note read.
"Messy isn't it"

Save your money Clay, my senior counseling is a free service. And well worth the cost.

My note which I have already wrote
says
"It was women who drove me to it."

That is one of the blessings of old age, we can slip away so easily. My method of choice is cigarettes and jelly donuts.
