The Politician Problem

Send us oddly across the earth,
to do things we abhor, at the oddest times.
They know how it kills us, they eat us.
They know how it matters to us.
Into fair sunbeams and blood,
our current righteous mission.

We're all born warriors anyway.
We're all at each other's throats,
so why not make it worth our while.
Why not bury the dead with a speech.
One nameless toll similar to the next.
Never let 'em film the coffins.

Never mind that, I'm optimistic.
Ride the up and down teevee reception,
which comes in clearer all the time.
We are nobody's fool on this earth,
the earth we would die to possess,
especially when they send us.

Pick a speech, any speech.
Did you notice soothing mendacity?
That is the key to a good speech,
the almost divine quality.

I am trying to think of a country that has the worst politician problem on earth. Zimbabwe, Israel or Palestine, almost a dead heat if you ask me.

The best political speech I have ever heard is the one the police commissioner gave in a play called 'The Balcony', by Genet.

Another day another ramble
sorry

My mind is taking me strange places recently. Naturally.

Okay, I promise. No more.
