Athena's Valentine

Athena fair
stalwart daughter of Zeus
graces her time and place
with divine knowledge.
Today unlined face,
silken hair,
robust yet fragile form
are proclaimed as the graces
of womanhood.
Athena, lost in the pantheon,
whispers to the nightears
of her faithful,
saying: "True woman's mind
inclines to wisdom."
But Daddy's girl
wants more recompense
for loneliness.

Hmmm....very deep subtext to this. Leaves the reader intrigued, yet understanding, in a way. This reader, at least.

Peace,
Barry
PS: I'm sure you know...Athena helped Perseus defeat the gorgon Medusa. It was her shield he used to see her without looking and thus being turned to stone. She insisted he take it with him on his quest.

Love the vulnerability of divine, of gods and goddesses living among humanity, subject to all the trials, the loneliness and grace, power and humility, or even stumbling, wisdom and longing..

Grey eyed Athena
Sprang from her father's forehead fully armed with .
Her shield of storms
I wonder what that feels like
Did Zeus have a splitting head ache

She left poor Hector to die like a fox on the run
BUt he had it coming.

Athena sister of blood encrusted Mars
She coould make war seem lovely to men.

THere used to be a forty two foot statue of Athena (Life size replica) in Nashville Tennessee, known to the truckers as the Athens of the south.

sorry for the rambe
liked the poem a lot
just a wantabee classics professor
