Bird Man

I'm a bird man
my bones are hollow as flutes
light as air, my feather parachutes
I survive on velocity
exist on lift and glide
a proud descendent of dinosaurs
how the eons flied
only yesterday I was in the sea
now I'm on the moon
I fly the flight of destiny
over lake and over dune
I'm an owl, a dove, a peregrine
funky chicken, rockin' robin
I'm an albatross, an eagle,
ostrich, dodo, terradactyl
a gull, a sparrow, a lowly crow
sharp of eye, the things I know
I'm a bird man
I fly by the seat of my pants
I'm light as thought
my beak, my lance
I'm a bird man
look up, you'll see me

I always wanted to soar
with my feet firmly planted on earth,
aerodynamically correct at all times.
Wish me luck I guess.

isn't it funny how people sometimes look just like the animal/creature they liken themselves to? but what if you choose more than one animal? that could be interesting.

remnds me (in both subject and flow) of this one i wrote a few years ago:
vogelfrei
vogelfrei
(literally: free as bird; historically: outlawed, considered fair game)
to be air or an
ashen streak of flight
or be silt:
i am outlawed,
free as a bird.
i'm a scarecrow
made of doves,
i am my own flock
of feathers.
i am ragged,
i am windblown,
tied to field and sky,
and i fly.
and when cascades of brakish water
soak my wings, soak them down,
i am still flying, barely
scratching mud,
my tattered pinions not yet
brushing sludge
touching ground
the way my rack does.
i am quick
i am fleeting
i am swift
and dove and swallow,
a flitting vagabound
of hope,
a raggamuffin fowl fully fledged.
i am a tumbling nomad of breath
with a rustling in the throat
while the sky
stands still.
flue ash and freedom
are hard to swallow.

thank you all for your comments, it was just a flight of fancy
and panta, I'm soaring as I often do on your work. Perfect companion piece. Should you do the cut-up or should I?
