water rushes

Post by sweetwater » April 11th, 2009, 8:59 am

water rushes through the empty
city and the remains seen
washing over your thoughts
are free in the flowing
to flower the future
with a presence knowing
the day is full of surprises

Interesting. Without us the city is empty and future not conceived. That was my first take.

in this town the rain sounds
like voiceless consonants in the washing tide
like ambivalent vowels in hollows and gulps

the tales are ancient like gargoyled waters
whispering through the jester's lips

and someone is drowning
and someone is flowing
to flower the future

and the oracle blows
blearing rings into a
present puddle
of surprise

like that moment right after a downpour,
concrete puddles staring up through canyons,
fresh in their spring twilight underworld,
too fresh even for the oil to rise,
for a moment, if only
for a moment.
