Storms

A temporary satisfaction,
when what is hidden is not in question
or if the question is not immediate
as a rain shower in May is not

oxymoronic, engenders necessary
sanity in those around you.
Concentrate on your breathing
in the middle of a lightning storm.

Pretend that others wrest control
of birth and death and of your wife
so that calm sleep returns to stall
responsibility and the inevitable lie.

Do not run into fields to hug trees
or hide behind generators. There is
risk-taking and that should be lauded
but there is also being a fool

and that should not be forgotten.
Do not pretend that you know what
others think. You did and that you do
should never be replaced with thunder.

(For my friend Greg. In memory of his wife JinSoon (1972-2009))

Thanks for reading.

I should apologize for the ambiguity. Each line is supposed to be about the two week period after her death and their two year marriage.

You did and that you do
should never be replaced with thunder.
much to ponder in these lines alone, i just keep repeating them over and over.

I had hoped for something like that.
