Graduation Day

June 2006.
In black cermonial muumuu and cap,
I graduated.

Three springs later,
The ghost of who I was hoping to be
should have been walking forward
with a Master's degree in hand.

Graduation day has come and gone.
I have yet to apply to graduate school.
Illness, life, fear. Dreams put on hold.

This is where I want to stand
yet I see the crumbling of my foundation,

sand around my feet.

Next application season,
perhaps my dreams will be attainable.
The someday of tomorrow
may one day be my present.
