Not sure why you posted this here but it looks like fun. I haven't had time to read the whole article yet but I'll try to give you my initial stance:

Because mutation takes place at the quantum level, evolution is, at bottom, indeterministic. The problem with this stance is that indeterminism is often misconstrued as an argument for "anything goes" and that is not the case. As in the 'free will' debate, indeterminism doesn't seem to change the basic point or is incoherent.

Personally, I don't know if we can argue determinism or indeterminism in any real sense. We just don't know enough yet (and may never know enough). For now, however, I'm just as comfortable with probabilistic descriptions of indeterminate events as I am with probabilistic descriptions of determinate ones. It doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

I don't understand.

Why post it if not to read it?

I've read it. Is that a bad thing?

sweetwater,

Certainly when you post your material, you expect to get responses. If you don't want the responses, just don't post the material.

Thanks!

some people only respond
to ruin people's posts

deriving pleasure
in the suffering of others

I don't agree that this statement is true at all.

If you're talking about Yejun, you're very wrong! His posts are always thoughtful and interesting and stick with the topic, explore the poem or prose, showing he has interest in the poetry and prose.

There's certainly nothing he posted on this thread which was the least bit insulting to you.

i don't know the personal history
of this forum

so there is better understanding
between some people than with
others

i don't really post comments
or i have tried to stop posting
comments

for this reason

If you are going to post stuff that is this interesting then for sure you must brace yourself for comments! I read it too and found it very interesting in content once I waded through the windy prose of it. It was hard to understand, and there's much of it I don't understand. I will say I am more drawn to the concept of indeterminist, I mean it certainly seems to leave more to chance, to at least see chance as possible. I like that.
Interesting read.

i'd rather have a thin skin and be sensitive
than to be cold and callous with a thick skin
but

yeah comments are to be expected
but sometimes it gets to you

and sometimes it's a little too much
depending on how you feel
I've even changed my own mind about my own comments

i think when i speak to a new ager- they tell me of transmuters and cataysts- light color and -
if i ask a physic about what came first the chicken or the egg- she might say- the goddess did it- with the power of the round and the cycle purring in the background like a 'fat cat' - i think the eloquence with which you have found yourself describing a spiritual experience to an atheist so to speak-or the difference between 'intention' and 'focus' and ----<>>><><>><><> space and time and setting up the containment around a ceremony- or your own protection againest those programed to destroy or trigger your self destruct button- or even to just make LIGHT of it all- because i tend to be serious often- and deep- and maybe that makes me like a chick with a target on her head- BAM- i meet the guy that wants me - and i fall in like a rabbit hole? nope- i fly above - because i have wings accross all levels- and when i write i am free- no one = can touch me here- safe and sound- and if you can write like that- POWER TO YOU- because you are extremely intelligent- do not bite the bait of being in the 'have to respond mode-' there is a task that i can do with out- i do not increase in value because i can out wit someone- i increase my value by encouragement=- and i am an asset to anyone - BECAUSE I FOUND MY VOICE- sing it-!peace
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
