sprambly legged pushme-pull
she claimed to be a redhead
but I soon learned the brunette truth

could have only happened
in a moment of abandon
my guard was down and so was hers

she wanted to tell me her life story
I said, "sure, does it begin with 'once upon a time'?"
in school I learned to sleep while pretending to listen

I slept through her first four lovers
her childhood traumas, her marriages
I opened one eye during her careers

she spilled her guts
and that's alright
but she wanted to do it again the next night
