in how the world became smaller

Post by sweetwater » July 20th, 2009, 6:06 pm

in how the world became smaller
with each footstep and imprint
upon the sand
and the how the light flickered
on and off for a moment
leaving the impression
of movement and time
over space

in all its probable manifestations
it stood as if silence offered
the hand of freedom
and the warmth of sunny days
spread amongst the ruins
of failed aspirations
and other such
dangling affairs such
as these

i couldn't help but remember
the fragrance nor the emptiness
curtailed between the remote
locale of such aforementioned
places nor how the intense
daylight gathered on the edges
of an awning overlooking the red
sea

and the glare and reflection
pointed in every direction

and one had to keep one's head
looking toward the ground
and from squinting all the time

in a blurry flash of daylight
and cool shallow waters
on a beach protected by the
mountainous desert on all sides

the enclave of an empty
coastline with anchored
boats and tied sails

the rest became the nostalgic
remembrances of things separated
by small steps

pushing itself further from view
in the passing of days months and years

the ending of such remembrances
could not be found as it crept into
the waking hours and the desolate
calling of a windswept roadside

where cars were few and far between
