Away

You and I,
we tuck ourselves into the countryside
and let this life here in the city
dissolve.
Only for two days,
but the world seemed different
as I drove into the greenery of life,
past creeks and ponds,
against backsplashes of haylofts and forestry.
We fed scrawny cows in a farm
spied on colts munching on oats
caught a deer hiding in the shadows.
Then we had to return
and we separated again-
you to your miserable existence
and I to mine.
And I wonder,
if life tasted so beautiful
because we slept in each other's arms that night
or because we were unfiltered and together
without the intrusion of our lives separating us.
