each day I awake

each day I awake, I must confess
there is a lot I take for granted
all those things I can't control
chances are they won't happen
the notion of fate brings comfort
what the hell can I do about it anyhow
so much to face and be fearful about
I guess, if that's going to be my choice
and too, I’ve got others to help me get by
but the responsibility of it all ends with me
each day I awake, I must confess
I have to thank my lucky stars
being born in the land of the free
I feel so blessed each and every day
not that life's free from toil and strife
oh, I have plenty that I could cry about
yet living with a right to rights offers hope
my liberty isn’t utopia, it gives me a purpose
each day I awake, I must confess
my life is not free from inhibitions
I fear the wolves with the power
disguising themselves as the shepherd
claiming to be my leader and protector
yet slyly limiting the liberty of my choices
moralizing from on high to bring me guilt
especially if I don’t support some agenda
to me, they mock all who died to set us free
there is a lot I take for granted
all those things I can't control
chances are they won't happen
the notion of fate brings comfort
what the hell can I do about it anyhow
so much to face and be fearful about
