the surrealist's future

it would seem otherwise on such an evening as this
to state the obvious and fall off a chair
drowning our sorrows for the moment
or languishing in a pool self doubt

what doesn't come as a surprise
is the detail by which each sentence
created it's own nuance

and how the return of images
rose again from the dead
and stole our imagination from us
as if we were sleeping

it is as if there was no other route
but to proceed forward
and business as usual

and how the new we create
seems more about how the new creates upon us
and at first noticing it isn't a familiar path
we follow along with strange eyes piercing into a future

been writin' short pomes about religion tonite,
how it stultifies and rips imagination in general,
then holds up all those cathedrals in counterpoint.
A lot of generations invested in it so far.
A little surreal, like a sunrise
800 million years from now.

and how this is created upon us
as i know what you are saying
in the irony of the saying

but i like your poem better
nothing better than a surreal sunrise
