now if I lived my whole life
all of it without thinking once
or hardly at all about dying
would my life, it’s value
embody any less meaning

what if I lived every moment
every breath to the fullest
not only for my self-benefit
but for the benefit of others
without any worry about death

so if I gave death a deaf ear
living my life with compassion
doing my part in assuring life
it’s being and purpose goes on
would my life be found lacking

death shall not be my master
only the aftermath of my life
lived well without any regret
nor weighed down with guilt
if I ignored death’s lure to die
