If we were really smart
we'd make sure school never ended
and work was a small fraction
of a citizen's day instead of some
threatening ogre that minds our business

imagine a world where education never stops
and it's against the law to be stupid
a crime worse than rape or murder
and what if we woke up each morning pumped
a healthy brain addicted to knowing more than yesterday

and what if this well informed population
understood the significance of compassion
made sure that everyone in the world
was at least OK, without disease, misery, pain
before we made a list of personal acquisitions

I know it's MADNESS
I know it, but I still can't help but wonder
what if school never ended
and graduation
was your death.
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

No, it's not madness at all. That's exactly what it is. I'm quite certain.

And you know what happens after you graduate, right?

You're going to have to get a fricking job. No kidding.

Nobody lives for free through eternity. God doesn't provide charity. This is not a socialist or communist eternity. You're going to have to earn your way.

So, study up and learn well because the good jobs in paradise are hard to come by and only the select few will get them.

The others are going to have to work in the cafeteria line or the latrine.

Wait a sec. I'm not working in the afterlife too! Unless the afterlife turns out to be another life... in which case I guess I'll have to get a job. Again.

Steve-- nice. Imagine such a world. Unquenchable general thirst for knowledge, intelligence, wisdom and compassion abounding, instead of material obsessions and ignorance. A worthy dream.

against the law to be stupid,
against the law to refuse to try to see another point of view
against the law to force others to succumb to mediocrity
against the law to be afraid of creativity

or just keep to the basic 'leave me alone - i'm in the middle of creation'
(often known to have disastrous results if said aloud)
