dare you
give it to them
what they want
try to become
accepted, lauded
applauded
for being like them ~
go ahead,
sellout your originality
your creative soul
hand it over to the critic
making your style
the popular
wherefore trendy
homogenized,
void of risk,
tasteless in flavor,
lacking any of
your certain spice ~
or you could choose
doing otherwise
staying true to thyself
defiantly then
casting out that critic
the nagging,
fault finding,
doubt inspiring,
sanctimonious voice,
like some tapeworm
eating into your mind ~
write your thoughts
sculpt them
craft ‘em distinctly
with that special twist
your blend,
your style
to be added
and shared with
the androgynous mix ~
therefore and thereafter
like parasitic symbiosis
you’ll help alter,
lessoning
the suffocating
collectivity,
firming the hold
which possesses
jurisdiction
among and about
so influential within
the critic’s province
