I AM A MAN

i refuse to be a slave or a rat in a cage
i will stand tall in the face of despair
i will no longer sacrifice my soul
for relief from my mind

i am a man, only flesh and a river of blood,
but i am a man, and i am who i am
and as long as that blood continues to course
and endow my body with redness and warmth
i will stand my ground and be who i am
be who god meant me to be
