Vast Empire of Forever

New York is like a star, or like a great horrifying tree,
organic buroughs of bark and brouhaha, a big tragic soul
of brilliance, precious and ebullient, reaching in and out,
in and out, just at the point of something strong and
gargantuan, greedily grabbin' handfuls of constants
constantly realized, like an endless expansion and collapse,
like rebirth through wombs entrancingly familiar,....
or, perhaps, it's a vast system of light and energy and
purpose, that shares ancient secrets of beauty and truth
and violence;
It exists, for all times, within a framework of diaphanous,
but sturdy walls of history and tension, ancient as the
first sounds, absolute as clouds, and as black as the
fever of lust amongst naive virginal processions;
It is a proactive intrusion into a universal belief,
brief, profound, and eternal, proudly displaying brightly
feathered angels and fiery dragons, golden beasts,
horned like fantasy death, and young warrior gods,
glistening with anger and purple resolve, scattered about,
throughout the timeless, tumultuous skyline, and extending
forever and ever and ever, protruding into the vast expanse
of dream galaxies, clothed in abstract plans and infinite
designs, perched divinely high above the dim dreary parts
of humanity's dismal and thoroughly damned display;

To be part of such a grand scheme is to rapturously approach
a violent storm, sterile,and beautiful and ugly;

I stared, mad and eager and reverant, out into the brilliant
beyond, out into the fomenting folds of time, from within
the blackest heart of my world, out of sync with all that
pulses in the familiar urban dementia, so lush and vibrant,
and I became blissfully aware of the shocking cold triumph
of the cosmos and the heavens, endless and wild, spewing
radiant, white hot phosphorescent glee;

The beautiful chaos manifest itself in spastic cycles of
frenzy and desire, dancing and laughter in the eternal
majesty of night; the many distant worlds, within the city,
and all their grime, their rhyme, glistened, their colors
deepened beyond the hues of swirling dream demons, twirling,
whirling, circling, perilously, carelessly, loud and
violent, astounding all around the central unifying theme;

It was an idea of constant destruction, beautiful like the
momentary cataclysmic excesses in orchestral frenzy, a
crash, a brutal culmination, an orgasm of spiritual release
and awe and a legendary scream, heard for all time in every
corner of the everything which pervades, even to the
lonliness of forgotten souls;

And then it became quiet,...a stillness descended, that
moved me to tears, for all that was beheld in that endearing
instant of recognition and gratification, an eternal reward
of understanding that goes beyond knowledge, into the realm
of spirit, renewed,....and then....I shrunk, unassumingly,
to the size of nothing, within the context of the supremely
awesome spirit of the city, for none to see but me and all
the other celestial worms inhabiting the nether reality
of the Apple.
