tropical afternoons

Post by sweetwater » March 29th, 2010, 4:10 pm

The day continues in the burning hours
of time drifting into a landscape
the moment itself seemingly suspended
and the sky is brilliant in the blue horizon

each step unto the dunes of a beach
in the wave and rolling ocean's reach
each stone thrown into the deep
breaking the surface of its breach

the day continues … the past dissipates
into the forgotten pages
of some unrealized fortune

the telling of the daylight hour
walking on the water's edge
as moments and other peculiarities
suffering unto a clear blue sky

remembrances gather like the fossils they contain
as memory and the deposits of sand and rain
the emptiness and the shoreline complete
in the unknowing shadowy figures
they speak of

as if the day before was a memory
of a crowded beach resort and tourists
lined along the shore
languishing underneath an umbrella

and as monuments that stand by the water's edge
bathing in the sun and sea
waving arms and floating
the afternoon passing into a breeze

and then the evening awakens
and the ocean's playground becomes quiet again
sun bathers leave for a tropical evening
in the old city and drinks

listening to music and clapping their hands

Reminds me of some times at the beach,
when my child was small. Very happy times...
Beautiful imagery...
