Sell the House
Sell the House
sell your house
go someplace else
cut expenses, start anew
be the pictures that you drew
make friends with a hurricane
never hurry, don't explain
just a roof to shed the rain
a crumb of food and a song
to whistle as you walk along
when you get to someplace else
and it's the place where you belong
grass, the perfect shade of green
the vines are tangled Byzantine
in the jungle of your dreams
it is darker than it seems
there's a place, a perfect place
we call it somewhere else
a stronger arm, a fairer face
we call it somewhere else
it's perfect in our absence
if we went there we would spoil it
and if we fry the egg or boil it
the shell gets broken, a subtle token
surrendered vain integrity
deeds undone and words unspoken
ditch the mortgage, dump the spouse
yes, it's best to sell the house.

I used to be an apartment manager. I moved something like 8 times in 10 years due to being transferred from one property to another (I used to live on-site at the apartments or condos I managed). I got really good at packing boxes! I enjoyed it! Moving around is good. It was tough on my young son, though.

good stuff, i was especially fond of :
we call it somewhere else
its perfect in our absence
if we went there we'd spoil it
reminds me of the Groucho Marx line ( paraphrase)
I wouldn't want to be a in a club that would have me as a member....
roughly that's it anyway..........it would be hard for me now to leave the many friends I've accumulated......but I may be forced to become an ex-pat, if we keep poisoning the US.........

If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Re: Sell the House
The gospel text for this coming Sunday in the revised common lectionary points to this thought in Jesus' mouth: "So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions" (Luke 14:33). And I have struggled throughout my life with a deeply internalized conviction that there is a freedom and a holiness in chastity (not sexual, but holistic) and lessness...while living in a human reality at the apex of wordly privilege: white, male, educated, middle-class, US American (legal), Christian, etc etc etc. My goal for comfort is to stop moving...yet I read your words and think of Jesus' words and think of how good it is to move, to be unattached to place and simply attached to love in the moment in which home is happening. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...and I have to tackle this in Bible study tomorrow night. (It is too much fun going back in time through pages here. So good to be reading your words again! How've you been?)
