Don't Cook For Me

Don't Cook For Me
I’m not sure I want you to cook
Feeling the way you are feeling about me
You suspect deception and intrigue
And it’s a bitter spice contaminant
Worse than bacteria or viruses
Worse than doubt and imagination
Don’t cook for me when you feel this way
The butter won’t melt and the water won’t boil
Whatever toil I put in our lives or you do
Is diminished in doubt and suspicion
And rags drug from the past, admonition.
If you cook, cook with hope and trust.
Cook your dreams, cook your lust.
But don’t cook for me tonight until we’ve
Set the history right and resolved our circumstance
And agreed to the steps of our dance.
Don’t cook for me at dinner, but let
Our breakfast be a pure thing, like broth
And clear the way, clear the way
Don’t cook for me tonight.
