been following Allen around
in some of his now beat poems
trying to remember where
I was when I first read
sunflower sutra

how young how old now then
what the worlds words pictured
when I drifted through those dusty yards
broken rail empty factory skies blow away
the sunflower universe signaling down eons

cobwebs on mars, soda fountain purple, rhapsody
in blue, Mingus among us, diamond cut words
set in Kerouac box cars, Ginsberg mother tongue
keeping time to the ramshackle mantra 55 blast off
walk right in, sit right down, let the free style rip-a-rant
of Howl all that cool jazz floating in and out North beach
Lamatia inspired, Blake's tapestry eternity blend
through out the raging heaven hello streets river Buddha
wrestling with beatnik hipsters in upside down pads dads

Allen always turning around a corner in high rise
corn fields, happened on the scene late 60's all you need love
Dylan dicey initiated by crazy spacey, the whole human race
keeping pace with the sign card flipping scene Bob
in some New York down town alley Allen keeping vigil in
background infinity don't look backs forever today I'm not sleepy

keeping the down time in deep lit cafe memory bitten drivin
trying to recall how a lifetime went by listening to space age
sounds banging typewriter keys to Monk and low key lingo
lip stick moons lounging razzmatazz finger snap shoe shuffle
basement undergrounds spinning heal a-rhythm-tic tack toe
slow motion hand making talk small lingering lazy slinky flow

a poem begin back when beautiful experienced give
to Jack break beatitudes dancing in the Miro mirror rain times
I stand on corner saxophone splash tossing silver drop dimes
to rhymes whose chance romance with first line best line mine
shine on gittery movie highway zooming through stop sign forest
open bottle book future Bobby Kaufman speaking city lights days
red river nights vino Vico vast spoken word vine twine around
the delight eternal design brother can you spare a mind, a rind
banana, bongo hep cat which way the which wind who knows Joe

America, where did you forget your poets in holy jeans jams
soup kitchen soul wandering thread bare like bare watt whats
waiting in halls of intangibles roads in back pocket sputnik was
ware that ground like you ground down you profound, nowhere, man
poem ends where it began coming going earth planet on the run sun
flower child born too late too fast too soon to last too cast aside slide let it go

Yes, you may petition the Lord with prayer, as I used to argue with Jim.
Doesn't hurt to follow the pathways beat down by others either. Very great thoughts in the poem...
