in sommersaults' release

Post by joel » September 13th, 2010, 2:53 pm

Were I to rot and die
and dust return to dust,
I’d pray the sun might bleach my bones and earth reclaim its trust;
I’d pray the humus be a pillow for my skull
until my cranium dissolves
and earth of me is full--
and yet, perhaps I’d like
my ribs to stay a cage
and curve within like tumbleweeds among the prairie sage
and lighten in their weight and petrify as air--
a crystal form in gaseous state,
as fair as life is fair--
then that, the one-time home my heart enjoyed in peace,
might, till the resurrection, roam in somersaults’ release.
