hospice

Post by joel » October 8th, 2010, 11:23 am

I’m not assuming immortality
is something easily – or possibly –
obtained. But rather, I believe in death.
I’m more than just convinced that life will end,
I’m lived in faith that living beings die—
that death is permanent—that once is life.
I don’t believe in souls’ eternity
because I know that limits limit me;
and there was time when I was not; and rife
will be the moments that I’ll miss when I
do not exist again. I don’t pretend
I’ll fly away, a spiritual breath
of something human: but impassably
I’ll die in hope of love’s vitality.

I don’t believe in souls’ eternity
because I know that limits limit me;

I would not think where soul resides
a limitation lives,
but rather ideas some deny
when not inclined to give
the only thing which you possess,
the fabric of your being,
Will, must be offered up on faith
for proof your soul has wings.
We should not mind if on our ear there fell. Some less of cunning, more of oracle...Thoreau
