obsidian eye
flowerpot blooms nesting dove
wings neatly folded

Ojo de obsidiana me observa;
la maceta florece con una paloma empollando,
sus alas prolijamente dobladas.


She is a little mourning dove, soft grey feathers and worried eye, and I am committed to keeping my bedroom window shutters closed until the hatchlings fly away, if we get that far ...

beautiful poem and bravo for the compassionate gesto I can´t share at all...! : (some time ago I noticed I couple of doves in the kitchen window... I broke their nest -only some ramitas- as soon as I could, saying to them: "hey... sorry palomitas but I need the window open, sure you´ll find another good place to build your casa"... they understood!, and kept using the aire acondicionado for taking a rest while looking inside from time to time...)

An aviary patio—
apartment building’s porch— it proves
a little goes a little way
for wary little weary doves

who seek the windless harbor space
of airy little cozy coves
where finches’ seeds through winter bleed
from feeders hanged and banged above—

the problem seems irrational
that birds among the feast that loves
them might endure endangered life;
but like a beast the devil roves

and tempts their well-fed welfare state
to nestle down; and in they move
and strive their best to nest nearby—
but once I knew a dove who wove

its messy pile of needled sticks
too close for comfort and I shoved
it off; I like the ambiance
of nature more than little doves.

Joel, I loved this poem. My significant other is threatening death, doom and destruction if the doves have not moved out and moved on when he shows up from Texas November 20th -- ho ho.

I had my experience with those feathered city rats, the pigeons, when a pair took over an abandoned songbird's nest on my balcony, dropped a fledging into the maws of my waiting cats, and everyone ended up with chicken lice. Cats, people ... ARGGgghhhh! Those pigeons were soooo gone when we finished!

Gracias, Arcadia Rosario! I just finished a book of Sueku, 92 in all, in English, with translations to Sueku, minimalist Spanish. I'll let you know when I finally publish it.
