A Good King’s Autobiography

There, in that long row, the last, the head
that uttered “No” when I desired a “Yes.
The next in line said “Yes” when “No” was best.
They disagree with Me so I decree them dead.
Count them! Trusted counselors, loved wives,
messengers who brought bad news, or worse;
on them, for costing me much sleep, my curse
was cast and they paid dearly, with their lives.
Enter now, this wordy teller of my tale,
who’ll pen My version of his loving king.
To seal the truth behind his waggish tongue,
his head will be the next that I impale.
