Across the river
two deer and fawn gaze at me.
Only water moves

i love those moments. i was motoring up some trail in eastern oregon, in that noisy contraption of mine, just coming up out of a draw, and i spied a pronghorn antelope maybe forty yards ahead, but he didn't run... must be familiar with ranchers coming up that way once in awhile... anyway, we stared at each other for awhile, for a surprisingly long time...
