Don was a wonderful poet, who was gifted with being able
to put his poetry to music, I was listening to a interview
with him and Frank Zappa, and his poetic intelligence
was so amazing, his sense of the absurd and obvious
was so advanced like that poet and that artist he was
coming straight through since he was a sculptor as a child.
As a kid from the 50's and 60's myself I can relate to his
sensitive irony, he was supposedly a bit of a tyrant to
his band members, i think it is not easy to have that
kind of genius he had, people back then coming out
of the 50's and on into the late 60's were awakening
and questioning things, Don Van Vliet had that in spades
but you know it was the awakening of the creative
imagination that he had, and it worked for him because
he had other creative friends like Frank Zappa.
