A Solid-State Orange

A Solid-State Orange

The Milk Bar can't get no hootch
somethin' the 'Viralmentalists claim the cows ate
gnaws little holes in the brain tissue
but they are round holes and not
the square ones where properganda fits

Daddy's skateboard got no wheels
glides on vaseline salvation
just an inch above everything
come drools down the leg of his jumpsuit
warm as a government check

Poetry ain't easy as it used to be
headlights shatter on the boulevard
you can hear them blinking
tinkling little fragments of memory
the shrapnel from a soul grenade

The eclipse leaves a bloody scar
red as violence on my eye
the eye propped open wide with
sad scaffolding and fed wanton histories
of the Milk Bar in fonder days

finding the tattoo on her ass
on the whiteness of her ass
was like finding the flag of another country
already pounded into a pristine moon
unnecessary as god's signature on creation

it was dark but I could tell it was an orange
by its smell, the smell of morning and sunshine
right there on her skin breathing
she told me it was placed there in another life
I believed her for as long as she required

But that was before Proinhibition when
the Milk Bar served minors
and we ran a tab on our good looks
when an orange was only an orange
and didn't rhyme with anything
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."
