Pious Pachyderm

I’ve pondered till my face is blue
and knelt till they are worn and sore--
these worshipful joints called knees.
I’ll never know, so if ever you do,
answer my prayer and tell me true,
on bended hinge I beg you, please,
why you and I have only two
but an el-uh-phunt has phour.
I cannot guess why he’s made that way,
with legs almost as big as trees;
but if and when he kneels to pray,
I doubt that he would ask for more.
