Prestige

Post by saw » January 11th, 2011, 11:11 am

My poems can't get me
a reservation at Chez Lunatique
not even that dirty little table
in the basement with the black widow
tablecloth and the ratback chairs

I can't trade a few poems
with Officer Deadpan with his
mirrored shades & pearl inlay billy club
for that speeding ticket he's waving in my face
with those stubby white fingers either
My poems are useless for securing

a stash of peanut butter and jelly
from the local supermarket or
bribing the state worker to pass my
'78 Roadhog Deluxe with the Fogomatic
transmission down at the Emissions
Testing and Condemning Facilty, but

I never slop about in the sty of my pity
for there are numerous young women
from the Art Institute that think I'm Deep,
sneak me up to their dorm rooms
for exclusive midnight readings.
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Never read much bukowski but watched a few videos about him.

"The blondes with the tight pussies came too late for me" Bukowski

just riffin don't mean nothing
nice work.
If you can't give me love and peace, Then give me bitter fame. — Akhmatova.

Great piece, Steve.... as always. I've been a fan for a long time. Wish you had read that time when I was up in Baltimore reading. I'd love to hear you read your stuff.

Indi ... I think.... therefore I am...:D no wait. What was I gonna say? Oh yeah. I think we ARE the beats .... the beat generation part 2... cyberwise. The net generation with a strong influence from the beats. Many here at S8 are big fans of the poets of that era and strongly influenced by them.

this is one of your best, steve
a real magic trick

(I think I've watched the movie The Prestige at least six times. It's a different trick every time.)
