bad marriages

Post by saw » January 12th, 2011, 11:34 am

I'm sorry, but in my mind
imperialism & democracy
are odd bedfellows
athens, rome, the ones
that couldn't curb their
enthusiasm
withered, died
yet still it's an inappropriate
topic for debate
no self-respecting politician
will touch it with a nine foot
fiberglass pole,
Mr. Obama may be well
intentioned, but he is
power-less to the power-rich
democracy is not ascendant
it is beleaguered, susceptible
waiting for a demagogue
to steal our youth
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

a capital thought!

We celebrate a mythic democracy. They wrote that "all men are created equal"...and they meant it: men (a word whose definition included race, rank and class) are created (but do not stay throughout life) equal. We want them to have written "all are equal", but they didn't. We've moved in directions to equaliuze our democracy...but we haven't let go of capitalism as a core doctrine of our national life. What good is it to believe we're equal just because people of color are allowed to pee in stalls next to people who are bleached, or that soprano voices can sing in congress alongside basses? Even if we let mutually, faithfully, lovingly committed men marry each other (and women to do the same)...why do we think we're equal?

We believe in capitalism more than anything else...and it's pretty clear that its zero-sum system is happy to keep us less than equal. And if our wallets trump all our other best intentions at equal voting power, then how long can we keep up the pretense that we are a free and equal nation? Our ideals line up with our old enemies' social and common commitments; our commitments line up with the deals we make with each other to stay power-based enemies.

and this poem is great!

in our economy we are almost all equal-obama pajama party ought to pardon political prisioners- like leonard peltier, who has been in prison for 23 years- how many indians have been killed by this corrupt goverment? how many black men and women? geez with the rape of mother earth and continous crimes againest people all over the world, where resources are more valuable than people? how can anyone be happily married when the struggle to surrvive is so intense?
i just tell my dog the truth
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
