taro patch talk
what gets said in the patch stays in the patch
there are stories that never get told
until the people die
the relief of finally being able to speak freely about something that happened 20 years ago is a relief
coffee sounds so good right now
in memory of ratface, gordon ching kenney, julio, earl p, and snoopy
john p, and all the smugglers that cannot be mentioned-
immortalized by talking story
we remember the friends and foe that built this one horse town
held here by secrets and desires unrequieted
they still try to make their presence known
larry ching the billonaire- giving conflicting medication by his sons lover
chinese rice farmers on opium in the valley
signing over land deeds for food
people are still hungry here
money does not always flow like rainfall
people have certainly gone through some serious money manipulations
just to surrvive
here on kauai
the taro patches speak of them in rustling leaves
wet pants and strength of purpose
bags of beautiful taro stacked in the back of the truck

I love the sound of this, it has the the tone and content of ancient lore...
the islands are magical to begin with, though I have not been to kauai, I would like to visit....been to the big island and maui......rode horses in the rain in maui, biked down the mountain at daybreak.....the sunrise was like being on the moon......been to a luau, had some poi......but don't know what the taro looks like in the field......watched the nene amble about , had the kona coffee, but the poem makes me want to see kauai........enjoyed
