in the rain, i was a fan of john irving, before portland,in kauai, reading, was a joy-since the degree and a few books later, my reading is less and less, but i am a groupie of the great words.the first "wordstock" had all the hippies i hung out with and all my favorite writers, and a whole bunch of funny artistic new writers...i got to hear john irving read from "until i find you"
i saw paul krasner, and the hog farm daze crew, but my bell really rang, as norman mailer was speaking, and i won his autograph- and he signed my book "The spooky art of writing" he did not look at anyone until i got to the table, and he took my hand and looked deeply in my eyes.
i cannot tell you what that felt like, but i knew nothing would ever give me that again, except when i read it-
i remember the first book i ever read, and how comfortable i was with books...portland loves bookworms, powells is still the greatest book store in the world...and i will always love things about life there, but i can never go there.not until these storms of old loves pass.
